About SAKA

The South Australian Kendo Association is the state body for kendo in South Australia — supporting clubs, promoting the art, and welcoming newcomers across Adelaide.

Who we are

The South Australian Kendo Association (SAKA) brings together the kendo clubs of South Australia. We help people find a club, support our member clubs with training, gradings and events, and represent kendo in the state. Membership is held at the individual clubs — SAKA helps point you to the right one.

Affiliations

SAKA is affiliated with the Australian Kendo Renmei (AKR), which is in turn a member of the International Kendo Federation (FIK). This connects local kenshi to national gradings, squads and seminars, and to the wider world of kendo.

What is kendo?

Kendo — “the way of the sword” — is a modern Japanese martial art descended from traditional swordsmanship. Practised with a bamboo shinai and protective armour, it develops focus, posture, fitness and spirit. It is suitable for all ages and abilities, from children to seniors and complete beginners to experienced practitioners.

The committee

SAKA is run by a volunteer committee drawn from our member clubs. Committee profiles and contact details will be published here.
